Easter Outreach Program
Lasallian Youth Pakistan organised a donation drive to collect essentials for those in need during Holy Week. The main purpose of the donation drive was to donate and provide food parcels to the less fortunate people at brick kilns. According to The Voice of Asian Christianity, in an article published 21st June 2023, ” In Pakistan, about 20,000 brick kilns employ about 4.5 million people. They often suffer from poverty and live in the most deplorable living conditions without access to basic amenities. They become bound in generational bonded labour due to the small loan they received for some need—marriage, illness, medicine, deaths, children, desperation, household expenses, and other concerns. These factors keep them and their generation in perpetual debt.”
The Lasallian youth group who organised a similar outreach program during Christmas, set about to create different kinds of fundraising activities to assist with the purchase of essential items. However, the timing this time round was challenging with both Lent and Ramadan occurring at the same time, they were not able to organise as many fundraising activities, so students were encouraged to donate money for the less fortunate families who live at brick kilns.
Under the supervision of Br. Sajid Bashir and Br. Zafar Daud, 30 food packages were distributed among the domestic staff at the La Salle High School and College Faisalabad and 30 food packages and 100 packets of snacks for kids were distributed among the people who worked at the brick kiln in the Malkhanwala area, under the supervision of Br. Aloysius and Br. Tabish.
The Lasallian Foundation was able to allocate funding received from Holy Spirit College, Lakemba, to assist this initiative. Br. Robin Mughal, the Youth Ministry Coordinator in Pakistan was pleased to accept the donations which enabled the students to complete the project successfully and extend the reach to families on the peripheries.
