National Catechist Training Centre Khushpur
A project assisting those who need it the most! The National Catechist Training Centre (NCTC) in Khushpur, managed by the De La Salle Brothers is exactly that. The only place in Pakistan where catechists can learn to assist clergy and teach congregations about Catholic life and Church teachings. NCTC is vital to the mission of the Catholic Church in Pakistan for it is here that young men are trained and formed to spread the Gospel throughout the country. The formation course lasts three years and all students live on site.
The crèche at (NCTC) in Khushpur, provides a safe and nurturing environment for the children of Catechists under training. The Centre currently enrols 71 students, inducing 16 married individuals accompanied by their wives and 20 children, of whom 12 are infants and 8 are school aged children. The crèche supports holistic formation of families by offering childcare for infants and a structured environment for school aged children, enabling the parents to fully engage in their three-year residential formation program.
A total of 25,000 AUD was donated generously to the Lasallian Foundation by staff via work place giving from St Michael’s College Adelaide and a private donor. Funds received were used to reconstruct the original crèche, purchase new equipment and furniture, painting and electrical work and finally, hire new staff to assist with supervision. Whilst there are so many benefits from the renovations, safety of the children was the key priority and project funds ensured purchase of soft flooring, security gates and secure play equipment. However, beyond the materials and walls, the impact the crèche has on families, is immeasurable. Providing a safe facility for families to be close to their children whilst studying and creating an inclusive environment where each member of the family can learn and grow, is a life time gift.
