Education Reimagined: A Generous Donation Sparks Change in Gujranwala

Multi – Purpose Hall project

In a heartening display of international cooperation and educational support, the Lasallian Foundation has recently funded a significant renovation project at St. Joseph’s Boys Hostel in Gujranwala, Pakistan. The project, centered on transforming a dilapidated hall into a state-of-the-art multi-purpose hall, has breathed new life into the hostel and expanded opportunities for its young residents. The renovation, made possible by a generous grant of Rs. 23,88,000 from a donor to the Lasallian Foundation, has addressed a pressing need at the hostel. What was once a neglected space, used primarily for storing old and broken items, has been reimagined as a vibrant hub for various activities crucial to the holistic development of the children.

Brother Peter Abraham, the director of the Hostel, detailed the extensive improvements made possible by the funding. “Cracked walls have been repaired, roof seepage has been addressed, and the broken floor has been fixed and polished,” he explained. The project also included repairing and replacing windows, doors, cupboards and tables and a complete electrical rewiring of the space.

Beyond these essential repairs, the hall has been equipped with modern amenities to enhance its functionality. A detachable steel stage, new floor rugs, multimedia projector and sound system have been installed. These additions significantly expand the potential uses of the space, allowing for a wide range of educational and recreational activities. The impact of this renovation extends beyond mere physical improvements. Brother Peter notes, “Children are very happy and grateful with the new facilities and are looking forward to benefit from them.” The multi-purpose hall is set to become a centre for recreational, sports, spiritual, religious and formation activities. It will also serve as a space for fostering social awareness among the hostel residents.

Furthermore, the benefits of this project reach beyond the boys’ hostel. The nearby St. Joseph’s Girls School will also have access to the hall for significant events, further extending the positive impact of the Lasallian Foundation’s investment. While the project faced challenges, including increased costs due to inflation and delays caused by extreme weather conditions and unexpected public holidays, the overall outcome has been overwhelmingly positive. The successful completion of the renovation stands as a testament to the perseverance and dedication of all involved.

The gratitude expressed by the students and staff underscores the profound impact of the Lasallian Foundation’s support. This project not only improves the physical environment of the hostel but also enhances the quality of life and educational experiences for the children residing there.

As the children return from their summer vacation in mid-August, they will be greeted by a transformed space that promises new opportunities for learning, growth and community building. The hall is a shining example of how targeted philanthropic efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of young people, even across international borders. The Lasallian Foundation’s work at St. Joseph’s Boys Hostel in Gujranwala is an inspiring model of educational support, demonstrating the power of one donor in creating positive change for future generations.
