La Salle Technical Secondary School has a new shelter.
A new shelter was erected at La Salle Technical Secondary School, Hohola (PNG) to enable students to enjoy breakfast each day and provide protection from the sun when temperatures rise in the summer. The shelter and the Breakfast Club was partially funded by donations received by the Lasallian Foundation from Oakhill College and a private donor, with the balance being sourced from fundraising by the school parents and students.
The Breakfast Club is a safe and welcoming environment where students gather to share a meal before they begin their school day. The Breakfast Club has been an integral part of the culture at La Salle Technical Secondary School over the years. The Breakfast Club is staffed by students, volunteers, with more than 200 students accessing a meal which they would not otherwise have had. Often students leave for school as early as 5am and being able to access the Breakfast Club is not only an important part of their physical needs to be successful learners for the day, it also offers the students involved a sense of community, well-being and an oasis from the challenges which they face daily.
The student population at La Salle has grown in recent years with the addition of Grades 11 and 12 classes. There are currently 1124 students currently enrolled at the school.
On behalf of Br Antony current Principal and the Lasallian Foundation we would like to express our gratitude for the donation of $30,000 AUD last year which enabled the building of the school’s Breakfast Club Shelter. Without the support of the Lasallian network, we know many students would go without a meal.
Brother Antony, the Principal of the school wrote to the Lasallian Foundation noting that the “Foundation’s commitment and ongoing relationship with our School is admirable. Your support helps disadvantage children’s education and their growth. … The significant contribution made by you and your organisation has lifted the face of the school. Your support is a great motivation to help us move towards our goal of building a better future for our students. Once again, thank you for your generous donation. Our sincere thanks to all who contributed towards this donation.”
